NEW 128TH STREET EAST CORRIDOR (select one per email)
Please take time to review the value of the new corridor to South Hill from SR162 that is being proposed. Because this will be demanded by the traffic from Tehaleh when their new road opens, please direct the Public Works department to put this as a #1 priority and direct funds to support the studies that are necessary to ascertain the alignment for this new road.
The new proposed corridor from 128th Street to South Hill is going to be essential when the new Tehaleh highway opens. Please be sure that this new corridor project is supported to fulfill a timeline to completion by the time that new Tehaleh road opens.
MILITARY ROAD CORRIDOR (select one per email)
Pierce County Public Works has proposed expansion of Military Road in anticipation of the overwhelming traffic that will be coming this way from the new Tehaleh highway. This corridor, paired with the new proposed corridor at 128th Street E., will be critical to the success of traffic flow when the new highway opens. Please be sure this proposed expansion is given urgent attention and is planned to be finished by the time the Tehaleh highway opens.
With the proposed improvements to the Military Road corridor, please be sure the residents will have safe access to their homes and to the road at all times of the day. Please work with the affected property owners to mitigate the impacts of the proximity of this road, which will be very busy with a high volume of traffic.
TEHALEH HILLSIDE (select one per email)
When Tehaleh builds their new road, they will be taking down the entire hillside, leaving a bare slope in place of the fully forested hillside we have today. This is an unacceptable and fully mitigatable impact to our valley view. Please require Tehaleh to replant that hillside with native trees and shrubs to regrow into the view we have of that hill today. The view from the valley is as important as the view from the hilltop. Respect the people who live, work and travel in the valley with this simple and affordable request.
The county has repeatedly made statements and has taken actions to protect the agricultural community and our rural culture. You need to again step up to protect and preserve our rural identity by requiring Tehaleh to re-forest the hillside after they have their road built. To not re-forest it would be horribly irresponsible and an insult to the valley residents, businesses and farmers who need the rural ambiance to support their customers’ farm visit environment.
ALTERNATE PARALLEL CORRIDOR TO SR162 (select one per email)
The volume of traffic destined to SR162 from Tehaleh with their new highway is unbelievable. The county must support the development of 122nd Avenue E. as a parallel thoroughfare that will be able to take some traffic off of the valley corridor. There are a couple of new developments happening on the hill west of Orting. These developments will use SR162 and SR161 for their north-south travel corridors unless 122nd Avenue E. is extended to 200th Street E. This would help relieve both SR162 and SR161 which are both overburdened today with heavy traffic. This new corridor would be a third north-south option for these new developments as well as many others already living in the south plateau area.

I recognize that you are not to blame for our situation and I appreciate your support thus far, however, now we are desperate for your commitment to resolving the issues facing those of us who commute, own businesses, operate farms, and make this valley our home.
Please do everything in your power to help us by influencing state legislators and WSDOT regarding the improvements that we need and those that are planned that we do not need to the SR162 Sumner to Orting transportation corridor.
Tehaleh is one of largest residentual developments in the NATION and THE largest in this sate. Pierce County will benefit by this growth, but the surrounding residents and communities will be damaged by it unless the County finds solutions to the transportation issues that the new Tehaleh highway (New Rhodes Lake Road) presents.
Finally, I thank you for everything that I know you can do for us who commute and live along this SR162 corridor. We are currently experiencing an over-capacity transportation corridor, the only corridor for the valley. I believe the County owes the citizens of this south-east sector solutions to the transportation issues the Tehaleh highway for SR162 has created. Your effort will be more than appreciated.
