Why do we live here - didn't we choose rural over urban?

NEW TEHALEH HIGHWAY WILL IMPACT THE RURAL CHARACTER OF THE VALLEY

  • Valley has been a farming community for centuries and is part of the attraction to this rural community
  • Efforts by Tehaleh, the County and the State must be made to preserve this rural environment
  • SR162 Congestion must be addressed and improvements must blend with the rural character of the valley
  • The new Tehaleh highway must not scar hillside, but rather be blended into it
    • Highway downside berm should be high enough to blend roadway into hillside
    • Tree and shrub plantings along highway should be made to control erosion and create a  forested appearance

LIGHT POLLUTION

  • One of the characteristics of a rural community is darkness at night
  • Rural areas are free from strings of street lights and excessive business lighting
  • Signaled intersections and pedestrian crossings should be the only street lighting
  • The new Tehaleh highway must reflect the rural highway standards
    • Highway must NOT be a lighted corridor, NO streetlights
    • High berm on the downside of highway will contain traffic headlights to help retain valley rural character

NOISE POLLUTION

  • Truck compression brake use must be restricted on the new Tehaleh highway
  • New highway will be very steep and will increase noise levels in the vicinity anyway
  • Added SR162 traffic volumes will increase noise levels
  • High berm on downside of highway will help to contain the traffic noise
